September 9, 2010 My Basic Eng3 teacher gave us a paper titled "Ugly Children May Get Parental Short Shift". (http://www.nytimes.com/2005/05/03/health/03ugly.html)
It left me quite disturbed thinking that this could possibly be true! Who are we to give better opportunities to a child depending on where they come from or the status of their beauty?
For the last two weeks, every time I see a child I try to really look at them & to see if there are discriminations or extra benefits and what cause either reaction?
Well, last night on Primetime what would you do? They aired an episode where the mother kicked her two daughters out of the car. In the first round she was dressed very homely and her car was beat up. Many of people jumped in and one group even made a protective circle around the girls when the mother showed up again.
The second round the mother was dressed up very nicely & she was driving a brand new car. This time when the mother kicked the girls out people's reactions were completely different! Some stayed a few feet away to "keep an eye out" for the girls but no one really intervened. WHY??
The first time people thought this homely woman was crazy or maybe under the influence but the nicely dressed mother seemed to be left alone.
REALLY? So that is what society has come to? How we treat children can simply depend on their background? What an outrage!!
